Here at God’s Love we are called to serve others in our local community and throughout the world. The following are some examples of ways we live out our faith.
Cindy Sundstrom is the coordinator for the Knit and Crochet Group, which meets for work on projects and fellowship. The members make a variety of items, which are given to needy people in the hopes of giving them warmth and lifting their spirits. Among the projects they undertake are prayer shawls, lap robes, chemo hats, adult afghans, and blankets for premature and newborn infants. Knit and Crochet donates their newly finished items 3 times a year to variety of recipients, including several hospitals and cancer centers, the Red Cross Shelter, the Bucks County Housing Group and a Bereavement Counseling Group for parents whose newborn has recently died. Members of the group are happy to teach their skills to women who are new to knitting or crocheting. Contact the Church Office for more information.
Spring is in the air! It is a great time to learn a new skill. Would you like to learn to knit, or crochet, or to brush up on your skills and learn something new? We learn a lot from one another and have a good time while doing it. Please join us.We meet at church in Rooms A1 and A2.
Our group is working on cot-size blankets for small children living at the Red Cross Shelter; they use blankets for naptime when they go to Head Start in the fall. We are making lap robes for patients on the oncology ward at St. Mary’s. We make chemo hats, prayer shawls, adult afghans, and baby blankets for charity and local organizations in our community.
We will meet on: Friday at 1:00 in Room A1/A2 on May 27. Then on Friday, June 3, we are going to enjoy a salad bar luncheon with fun and fellowship.
Note our summer schedule: We will meet the second Friday of each month during the summer. The dates are June 10, July 8, and August 12 at 1pm. All are welcome to join us and if you have any questions, please call Cindy Sundstrom at 215- 493-2484 or email her at cscrafter1@verizon.net.
The Housing Group began as a grassroots community effort in 1980 to serve low income individuals and families in crisis in Bucks County. They operate three shelters (Doylestown, Penndel, and Morrisville) to provide temporary housing and social services. There are food pantries in both Penndel and Doylestown shelters. They are open to the community and provide food to about 400 families a month. Coordinated by Cindy Sundstrom, God’s Lovevhas given generously through our monthly collections.
Through the ministry last year, God’s Love Church delivered hats, mittens and scarves from the PreSchool Christmas collection, delivered 83 pounds of food collected by Girl Scout toop 23 and 320 pounds of food from our congregation. In addition, paper products, toiletry items, and new kitchen items were provided to shelter residents, the holiday meal distrubition included 551 pounds of food and 17 turkeys, and a total of 30 gift cards were distributed.
