Each August, members of our congregation purchase new school supplies for needy local children. Our school supply collection includes durable goods such as backpacks, claculators, and combination locks. We also collect other start-up supplies including pencils and pens, markers, scissors, notebooks, and gluesticks. The local food pantries and school district nurses, who distribute the supplies are always grateful for our donations.
Each year local organizations provide God’s Love with lists of gift ideas for their clients/patients. Individuals and families of the congregation purchase the specific items; wrap them; and return themto the altar on St. Nicholas Day (usually the first Sunday in December). Approximately 200 wishes are fulfilled and distributed to a half dozen locations, including schools and other human service organizations.
We love this opportunity to spread the Christmas spirit with others!
God’s Love hosts three blood drives per year. During the year 2009, there were a total of 102 people present, 104 successful blood donations and two first time donors. This equates to helping a total of 312 people in need of blood. The American Red Cross awarded God’s Love Church with a certificate of appreciation for the blood drive in December 2009 for reaching 112.5% of our goal! This effort is coordinated by Eileen Bishop.
The next blood drive is Thursday May 12th, 1:30 to 7:30pm. We always need donors. Sign up board will be in the commons area next Sunday. Donors can call Eileen Bishop at 215-262-0099 (cell) or church office 215-968-4435 for an appointment or they call the The American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE LIFE.
Emergency Relief Association (ERA) During the year 2009, God’s Love collected 673 pounds of non-perishable food products to benefit the ERA food pantry located in the united Christian Church in Levittown, PA. This was a very demanding year for the ERA-a total of 12, 092 people from 3400 families-which included 5001 children and 834 senior citizens. The total meals provided for the needy families was 164,950.
Coordinated by Mel White, donations for the ERA are always in need. Please consider donating non-perishable food products by dropping them off at the church.
The goal of the Aid For Friends (AFF) organization is to provide daily, no-cost meals to our frail and/or elderly clients. To prepare enough meals for the 2,200+ individuals who count on us, we hold cook-ins at the Church monthly. Please consider joining us for our next cook-in. Alternatively, you can make meals at home, and bring them to the Church. Empty meal trays (including directions) are available in the Church commons. Once filled at home, freeze the meals as soon as possible, and deliver them to the AFF freezer in the Church kitchen. This effort is coordinated by Kurt Nelson.
The IDHC is a local organization the provides affordable housing and free furnishings to their qualifying clients. Working under IDHC’s supervision, our group of volunteers works approximately five Saturdays each year. Our workdays are the second Saturday of the odd-numbered months, except July. A typical work day lasts from 9 AM to 2PM. During that time, we work on demolition, painting, cleaning, or general yard work. We are glad to help provide affordable housing in our community.
